EtsyPaper 1st Winter Challenge: Snowman

With much enthusiasm and great effort by Rach (please visit this very talented illustrator etsy shop), our EtsyPaper team finally got our very own first winter challenge - Snowman theme. This has got all the members excited and working on their piece for this challenge, including myself of course! A Long Pause

I'm finally going for my maternity break promised to myself about a month ago. I'm going for a longer one though...extended till 31 Mar 2007 :P

...Dec'07 for delivery
...Jan'08 for confinement
...Feb/Mar'08 for adjusting to my role as a new mama.

Hopefully, I can resume my etsy shop operation after that but I'm not very confident at all! There seems to be so much to learn and know about taking care of baby and I'll be coping alone mostly with my hubby possibly going overseas for work alot.

In case you don't know, I'm a chinese and we practise "confinement" for one whole month after birth delivery. There are many *restrictions* during this time and to name just a few....stay home all the time, not taking cold shower/bath, bathing in chinese herbs, take only red date/longan drink instead of plain water, eating specific "confinement dishes" especially cooked with lots of sesame oil and ginger, not walking barefoot in the house...and many more. Etsy Gift Guide

Etsy recently started a gift guide and it created alot of mixed responses from the etsyian community - some liked it, some hated it, some wanted improvements. So much were the responses that Etsy Admin created a forum thread to consolidate all the feedback, input and ideas from the community.

I must admit to feeling somewhat *buried* in etsy due to the large community of sellers and especially those who frequently list their items for exposure. Perhaps due to this feeling of *inadequacy*, I've not responded to any admin thread to show off item(s) from our etsy shop. I was lukewarm when I first saw the gift guide introduced in the forum, choosing to observe passively as a bystander only. In fact, I didn't even bother to find out anything until I saw the feedback thread by admin.

I've not made into any new treasury lists since my previous ones early this year. I often *envy* the shops who made into the treasury list in the front page and featured sellers. Never would I imagine this could happen and it totally *startled* me :P


YESSS...my Poinsettia Ornament Card made it to the Etsy Gift Guide under the Christmas category! I did wonder how this card had a quick jump in views as it was the last of my Christmas cards to be posted last week...hmmm, so this is the reason :) I'm happy for the possible exposure to my shop but wonder if it will translate into sales or not? At least as I'm writing this entry, there isn't any sales made at all, maybe I should not be happy too soon huh? Why do I feel like I'm such a wet blanket...

Cute Baby Teddy Card

I completed these new baby cards as part of my EtsyPaper weekly goals for last week, 18-24 Nov. My multi-card reader was faulty and I couldn't post the pictures stored in my CF card. Just bought a new one today that costs me $25.00 SGD! Too tired to walk around and compare prices so got it at the first available shop we walked into.

I'm happy that the colourful polka dot tape I bought recently was used on the cards :) I tried to use the baby bear patterned paper too but I was dismayed with the results. I'd to abandon the idea of fitting the baby bear patterned paper into the card before I could actually come out with this design that pleased me. I especially liked the printed "Cute Baby" sentiment and the silver circle tag cut with metallic cardstock and embellished with a ribbon and a handcut diaper pin. These cards will be in *limited* quantity as I don't have any new stock for the patterned papers used to cut the romper on the teddy bear.

PS: Won't be listing these cards in my Etsy shop as I will temporarily not accept any orders after 30-Nov and until I return from my maternity break.

I used frosty the Snowman from my Christmas ornament card and made it into a normal folded card. I love the colours on this card - cool, soft and light that contrasted well with the stronger colours on the snowman. By the way, it was "accidentally" put together on it's own when a bunch of papers on my desk was shoved together and I liked the effect.

All Framed Up

Yay, my etsy customer who bought three Kimono Doll cards from me few months ago emailed this framed up picture that now decorates her home :)

As for my bulk order of yesterday...no, it didn't go through. I'm ok though, will take it easy for now and try my best to make sales ex-stock in my etsy shop. Remember I'm supposed to be on maternity break by end of this week but I'll extend another week since there are no imminent signs of *labour* (fingers crossed!)
